Una splendida poesia di Robert Frost, in assoluto una delle mie preferite, soprattutto nella sua versione originale, perché in questo caso con la traduzione purtroppo ci perde parecchio....
Due strade divergevano in un bosco ingiallito,
non potendo attraversarle entrambe
ed essendo un viaggiatore solo, mi fermai a lungo
osservandone una e inoltrandomi con lo sguardo più lontano possibile,
fin dove essa svoltava nel sottobosco;
Poi osservai l'altra via, che era ugualmente giusta
ed era forse la scelta migliore
perché era erbosa e meno battuta,
sebbene in fondo, il passaggio della gente
l'avesse segnata più o meno allo stesso modo.
Entrambe stamane giacevano uguali,
sulle foglie nessun'orma nera aveva lasciato la sua impronta
così decisi di lasciare l'altra via per un altro giorno!
Sapevo in verità che strada porta strada
e mi chiesi dubbioso se sarei mai tornato indietro.
Chissà dove, fra molto tempo
dovrò raccontare tutto ciò con un profondo sospiro di sollievo

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
